Arcadia High School is a public, four-year secondary school, which is part of the Accomack County Public School District on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Chesapeake Bay to the west, Arcadia High School serves the educational needs of students located at the northern end of Accomack County. Arcadia High School is proud to maintain a reputation for academic excellence with a diverse community of learners, despite its rural location. Arcadia High Schools attendance zone encompasses approximately 575 square miles and a number of towns and small communities. Many of our families have unique situations and family structures i.e. single-parent families, blended families, emancipate students, households with multiple generations and multiple families, homelessness, etc.
Many of our families lack reliable internet access and often change their phone numbers and physical addresses. This instability makes communication with families difficult. The purpose of this mobile app is to streamline the communication between teachers, students, and families of Arcadia High School. Currently, our school relies on phone calls, emails, website, exterior LED sign, social media, automated phone calling system and traditional snail mail in order to reach all of our students and their families. This app will consolidate our efforts and reach a higher percentage of our students and families, even if their phone number or address changes. This app will allow students and parents to receive notifications regarding school related information through the use of their smartphones. They can message teachers, make schedule requests, check for upcoming events, receive notifications about school related issues, etc. In a time where communication with students and families is so vitally important, this app will facilitate Arcadia High School’s transition into both the hybrid and virtual learning models.
